FINALLY

We leave for Ocracoke TOMORROW!!!  I'm so excited I can barely stand it!  I can't even begin to tell you how badly I need a full week of sand, sun, surf...ok, and beer!  I'm even more excited to finally share a real vacation with my little munchkin.  I get 9 full days with her and Edwin (8 of those spent at the beach!), I haven't had that much time with my family since maternity leave.

So last night Carmen and I did all the grocery shopping and I got as much packing done as I could while Edwin was working.  I'm working until lunch today (which it's really pointless for me to even be here right now) and then going home to pack and clean while Peyton is at Nonnie's.

We can't check in to our house until 4pm tomorrow, so we're not rushing to head out early.  We're going to let Peyton take her 1st nap at home in her own bed, then head out when she wakes up.  There will be lots of stopping since we'll have a 1 yr old and a 2 yr old...the trip down should be interesting to say the least.  But it will all be worth it!

You probably won't hear from me for a week, so I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Randoms

We had a great (busy) weekend.  We went to a party at a friend's house Saturday night while the in-laws kept Peyton.  It was great to get out and catch up with some wonderful friends (without chasing around a 1 yr old).  Sunday we went to church and then I hit up Sam's with my Mom and my friend Carmen to do some shopping for our beach trip.  After that we headed to my in-law's to celebrate my MIL's 60th birthday!  We had fun but I was so happy to finally get home and stay home.  Poor Peyton was exhausted and didn't move from the time she finally got to bed around 8:15pm until she woke at 7:30am...I don't think any of us moved much last night, especially with some nice thunderstorms which always make me sleep like a log.

I just (and I mean JUST) got the news that a great friend is...yup, you guessed it...expecting Baby #2!!!  This makes the 8th person I know that's expecting their 2nd baby.  She hasn't "officially" announced it yet, so I'll keep my lips sealed for now.  I know I've said it before, but it's just like 2 years ago all over again.  There were like 10 of us pregnant at the same time...all with our firsts.  So Hannah, if there's something you need to tell me go ahead and do it now ;)

I'll be spending this week getting ready for our upcoming vacation.  I have a ton to do and the hubby is on nights, so most of it will be on me.  I'm so ready to go, this break from reality is much needed and I can't wait for our first official vacation with Peyton now that she's old enough to actually enjoy some things.

That's pretty much it for today.  Boring, I know.  But I need a little boring in my life from time to time!

Coming Up

Wow, we have so many things going on over the next 2 weeks!  This weekend is going to be a busy one.  We're taking Peyton to a festival at the fairgrounds, we have to do some shopping at Sam's for beach stuff, Edwin and I are going to a party Saturday night, church on Sunday, then celebrating my MIL's birthday Sunday night...whew!

Next week I've got to start cleaning and packing...which will take up pretty much every evening since Edwin will be working nights.  Then next Saturday we leave for OCRACOKE for a whole week.  I.can't.wait! We've been on a few trips with Peyton, but never for a week.  I'm already stressing at the amount of stuff we're going to have to take.  The longest vacation we've been on with her was 4 days, and the car was loaded down for that trip.  Thankfully we're borrowing my parents Tahoe so we can fit all of our stuff, her stuff, and the food/beach stuff.

Traveling with a little one is no joke!  Long gone are the days of packing a suitcase of clothes and hitting the road, now it's; pack n play, diapers, wipes, food, milk, sippy cups, clothes for every type of weather possible and back ups for those outfits that will inevitably get ruined at some point during the day, bath soap, toys, sunscreen, diaper rash cream, first aid kit, Ibuprofen for any teething issues, and the list goes on!  It's exhausting, but seeing how much fun she'll have makes it all worth it.  Peyton most definitely takes after her Mommy and has inherited my love of the beach, she's a total beach bum already.  Loves the sand, loves the ocean, loves the waves, loves the shells, loves the outdoors...so bring it on!

Not Much to Report

I've been such a lazy blogger the past week.  Honestly, I've been spending every free second with my princess.  This was Edwin's week to work nights, so it was just me and her every evening and most of the days this weekend.  Not to mention work has been INSANE the past few weeks.  As soon as Peyton is asleep, all I care about doing is crashing on the couch.

We had a pretty uneventful weekend.  Edwin worked Friday and Saturday nights and slept until the next afternoon.  Saturday morning Peyton and I got up and did a little shopping.  Nonnie came with us and we met up with my friend Carmen and her son Greyson.  Saturday night and Sunday morning Peyton was so incredibly cuddly...I ate it up.  She has recently started having longer periods of laying on the floor or laying on me and just relaxing.  It's so great.  She absolutely loves her Boppy and she'll roll all over that thing.  So Saturday we spent the evening laying on the floor in the living room, cuddling, and watching TV.  I couldn't have asked for anything better (except having Edwin there of course).  After Peyton went to bed I cuddled up with some Oreos and a glass of milk and watched back to back chick flick's, it was a nice Saturday night.  It's so crazy how my definition of a "fun Saturday night" has changed over the past few years.  I used to be such a party girl, I NEVER stayed in on a Saturday night and I definitely wasn't in the bed by 10pm.  It's a good change though.

Sunday Peyton decided to sleep in until 8am, of course my internal alarm still went off at 7am so I got up and got myself ready...then got back in the bed for 40 more mins of rest.  We didn't make it to church this week, I physically didn't have it in me to go it alone this weekend.  I had 3 horrible nights of sleep in a row thanks to thunderstorms and a terrified dog and then Edwin coming in late always wakes me up.  I was dragging hard this morning.  After Peyton woke from her 1st nap, I fed her and woke Edwin up, then we all headed out to the mall just to get out.  Peyton literally ate 1/4 of  my 6 inch sub when we stopped for lunch at the food court...after she had already had her own lunch at home!  She sure does love to eat.  We went home, put Peyton down for nap #2, then played outside this evening.

Nothing crazy exciting, but it was nice.  Next weekend we have a party on Saturday night (baby free night, woo hoo), we're taking Peyton to the Go to be NC Festival, and Carmen and I are doing some grocery shopping for our beach trip the following weekend!!!  Lots of fun stuff coming up!

Yes, she's in the fridge!  Crazy girl.

Birthday Party

Saturday was Peyton's 1st birthday party, and it was an amazing day.  The weather was absolutely perfect, we had a great turn out, and Peyton loved every second of it!  I was wondering how she would do being the center of attention when it was time to have cake and sing to her, but she hammed it up by laughing and clapping her hands.  She didn't dive in to her smash cake like she did her cupcake, she was actually very ladylike (odd for her).  she had some handfulls of icing, played with the cake a little, then she was done.  Our "theme" was Minnie Mouse and we did hot pink and zebra colors (although we didn't really get any good pics of the decorations)!  Here are some pics from the day!

1st Cupcake

12 Month Update

Yesterday...on her birthday...Peyton had her 12 month appt.  I felt awful for scheduling it on her actual birthday, but it was the best day this week for us to go.  It did not go as well as every other appt has, I think she has finally figured out what they do to you at the doctor's office!  She usually loves going and loves seeing Lisa, but not this time.  Poor girl cried from the time they called her name until the time we left.  The finger prick hurt my heart, I hated that part!  As soon as she was in the car she was laughing and talking like everything was fine, little stinker!  Here are her stats...

Height - 29.5"
Weight - 21.8 lbs
Head Circumference - I don't remember

She was the same as last time, in between the 50th and 75th percentile in all categories.

What she's doing at 1 year...
  • Bed 7:30pm - 7am
  • Naps at 10am and 3pm (except Sundays)
  • Eats anything we put in front of her
  • Completely off the bottle!!!
  • Drinking whole milk and water
  • Wearing 12 month clothes
  • Talks all.the.time
  • Separation anxiety had calmed down for a while, now she seems to be having another spike of it
  • Has 6 teeth...working on 2 more right now
  • Hair has lightened from dark brown to light brown with blond highlights
  • Has taken her first independent steps
  • Loves walking while holding one of my hands, but gets frustrated that she can't go as fast as she wants
  • Hugs and kisses everything
  • Loves taking things out of boxes/containers/baskets and then putting them back in
  • Wagon rides are a must every evening
  • Now points to things she wants and is making up gestures/sounds to go with certain things...like when she's hungry she smacks her lips and/or says "nummy nums"
  • Loves making animal sounds, pointing to body parts, repeating words
That's all I can think of right now.  It's so hard for me to believe this time last year I was completely sleep deprived and holding my newbrorn baby girl.   Life wasn't complete before she came along!

We gave her a cupcake last night to celebrate, we just couldn't wait until the party to do it!
Here are a few pics...

One Year Ago Today...

Well today's the "big" day...my little girl is 1 YEAR OLD!!!
I thought it would be nice to re-post my birth story.  I did this post once before, but it just seems like a sentimental thing to do today.  Plus it's my blog and I'll do what I want :)

So here's how it all went down.....

My original due date was May 4, 2010.  On Saturday May 1st, I was having a lot more Braxton Hicks contractions and just wasn't feeling "right".  That evening I lost a part of my plug (we'll just keep it at that).  Now for those who don't know, losing your plug could mean you'll go into labor in a few hours, days, or weeks.  But since I hadn't been feeling right, I told Edwin "you may want to get ready because I think something's going to happen soon."  Everything was fine Sunday (the 2nd), then about 3am Monday morning I started feeling some light cramping.  It was nothing bad, I was able to sleep right through it.  I woke up to get ready for work around 6:30 and noticed the pains had gotten a little worse, but they were coming at random times.  I figured I'd just rest a little and go in to work a little late...riiiiight.  Around 7am the contractions started coming consistently, but they weren't close enough together or strong enough to go to the hospital.  With every half hour that went by they got closer together and STRONGER.  By about 9:30am I was yelling for Edwin to call the doctor's office because it was time to go....NOW.  It was all I could do to put on some sweat pants and a t shirt in between contractions.  I'm pretty sure I looked like death by that point.  They wanted me to come in, so we grabbed our bags and hit the road. That was the most excruciating car ride of my life!

I used to ask people "how will I know if I'm in labor"....wow what a dumb question!  So we drove to the doctor's office and I drug myself in, stopping and almost dropping to my knees with each contraction.  I think I terrified every pregnant woman in the waiting room.  I was proud of myself for staying so calm and not screaming at anyone, but it took a lot of restraint on my part.  They made me do all the triage mess (weight, BP, etc...) not realizing I was in active labor.  That did NOT make me happy.  When they finally checked me I was 3 cm and they sent me straight to Rex.

Once we got to Rex and they wheeled me up, they asked me my pain level 1-10.  I finally got the word "T-E-N" out of my mouth and they bypassed triage and got me straight to a room.  It was about 11:30am by the time I was in my room.  I fought through more contractions for a few hours then my best friend finally came - MY EPIDURAL!  That was the most amazing, wonderful, awesome thing ever.  Within 15 mins I couldn't feel anything from the waist down...bliss!  Besides barfing in a plastic beaker a few times, I felt fabulous.  They checked me around 3pm and I was already 7 cm.  I started feeling some serious pressure around 4pm and it gradually got worse to the point where it was painful.  I had some visitors, but close to 5pm I told the nurse I really needed her to check me because I was feeling sooo much pressure.  She told my last visitor to wait outside for a second.  She checked me then stuck her head out the door and said "sorry, you can't come in.  we're having a baby, NOW".  I was already 10cm and ready to push.  I started pushing around 5:10pm and it was actually a fun time (yeah I know how weird that sounds).  My Mom had one leg, Edwin had the other, an episode of The Office was on the flat screen TV in front of me, and my nurse was awesome and hilarious.  We laughed through most of the pushing.  She told me to stop about 5:45pm (easier said than done by the way) and the doctor came in.  I was so happy it was my favorite doctor, Dr. Gunter.  Then Peyton Dawn Killette was born May 3rd at 6:08pm weighing 6lbs 8oz (kinda neat with the 6's and 8's). One day before her actual due date :)

I'll spare everyone the rest of the details, although it doesn't bother me to talk about it at all.  Everyone was right when they said you'll lose all modesty once you have a baby.  They could have invited the entire hospital to watch the birth and I wouldn't have cared at that point!  I'm so glad I was able to have a vaginal delivery, they make for some really entertaining stories :)  So that's how I finally got to meet the most beautiful baby girl on the planet and the love of my life!

My How They Change...

Tomorrow is my baby girl's 1st birthday...I really can't believe it!  It just blows me away how much they change in 1 short year.
